My New Obsession...

In the current state of our  global environmental condition, it's just not practical for a girl to be spending her time and hard earned dollars on toxic and hazardous beauty products.  BUT... it is the season of peep toes and flip flops, so in the grand tradition of an old time saying when there is a will, there is a way.. I introduce to you *insert drum roll here*    ButterLONDON.

The lacquers are 3free containing no formaldehyde, toluene or DBP... lets here is for NON TOXIC!

Hit up www.butterlondon.com to pick your colour (or if your heading to the Gastown Shop Hop, Ishara on Water St carries the line).. they have over 40, so it's easy to find one you'll love...and if your feeling really curious try out the JELLY line, it's made to feel like lipgloss for your nails.  I stuck with the traditional version; my last foray into into unorthadox nail polish was with matte.. pretty much felt like a head trip the whole time.. what can I say I'm a  classy girl.

Artful Dodger was my pick.

Return of the Silver Fox?...

While everyone is on the point for trend season eagerly paying attention and buying up new spring looks (cause how could we possibly be caught strutting down the street looking less than tres chic??) I have noticed a little something else in the "trend" department....a resurrection of the Silver Fox.  I began to noticed it inside the pages of GQ...the first time it came in the form of Ted Dansen looking sharp in a spread focused on grey suits and all the while sporting none other than what could be the perfect accessory, but a full head of silver shiny hair! tuche Ted, tuche.

The following month it was Pierce Brosnan looking super fly and exuding more confidence and energy than his youthful costars (..Robert Pattinson in this months Remember Me, which has me anticipating finally seeing robert not acting as some constipated vampire...BUT that's a whole other topic on its own, and generally I like to keep the mood positive here, but don't worry Rob, I dig the devil may care style and effortlessly coifed hair....oh dear did i tangent again?).  If any one is keeping track, that's 2 points for the Silver Fox.

The final one was Michael Douglas on the cover of Vanity Fair (for the sequal to Wall Street co-staring non other than my fav Shia  LaBeouf) sitting on a wall of gold bars and money, which is probibly the same image that Cathrine Zeta Jones imagined when she first met him...oops I did it again!! ok I have to stop typing cause it might only get worse...quick cut to the photos.

4:51 pm...

As I flip through my mass amount of magazines that I've been buying off of news stands like I'm stocking up on cans of beans for a second great depression (remember this factoid when I have to be checked into the Conde Nast addictions clinic) I cannot help but be swept up into the slew of fashion stories.  Whether the showcase is for electric funk of techno colours and prints (shout out to Prenza Shouler s/s collection) urban military or the delicate femininity of lingerie inspired attire, the vast theme is amped up energy and high on impact.

So, here for you, are some of my favorite images -  also doubling as my wish list -  from Bazaar, Flare, Fashion and Vogue...enjoy as I enjoy...whatever trend your vibing this season.

My Absolutely Fabulous Design Project...

With spring in the air, I've been feeling a new serge of energy.  The sun has been shining,  the smell of the warming sea air overtakes me as I get my morning coffee, Cherry Blossom's are all a bloom and so is my creativity...so here I go letting you in on my new pet project, it's my version of a teaser trailer (and look I'm utilizing all those tools I learned at school!! although the pattern making portion has been taking me a little longer than I would like to admit, but that's just between you and me).

More to come on this one..

Ps. new thought.. (I've also noticed that spring makes me spontaineous)  start dropping 'absolutely fabulous'  in daily conversation more...gives it a little extra zing. It took my post title from meh to Ooo la la.  Try it, it's like adding a cherry to vanilla ice cream.

1:34 am...

...Robert Pattinson,
..."Bette Davis Eyes",
...The Sartorialist,
. ...black bean salsa,

What more could a girl need?
(just me winding down my Sunday night, and on a further note, my week)

Where is the fashion you ask? Well, it was when I was flipping through Feb.s GQ that I stumbled on one Mr. Pattinson who "dresses so you don't give a damn how he's dressed" when the tinge of perfection happened.

I'll take the 50's and 60's for $200 Alex...

If fashions your game, retro is the name...at least for many of the most recent fall/winter shows in Paris (and Prada if you came from Milan).  Designers have been sending silhouettes down the runways inspired from the technicolor decades from A-line skirts to boxy jackets.  The shows are styled with belted sweaters or cardigans, and fabulous bouffant or perfectly teased hair straight out of the Brigitte Bardot handbook.  Whatever the look, the message is fun, polished and feminine.

The Giles Deacon show on March 3 played with pop art clouds on everything from bags, and hemlines to the actual runway.  Over at Rochas, which showed on the same day, the collection used a multitude of pastels and sought it's inspiration from the 1969 film "Cactus Flower" starring Goldie Hawn - perfectly placed for 60's inspiration.  The mood at Prada was slightly more serious, coined "Librarian Chic", using heavier knits and subdued colors but they didn't miss out on the fun with ruffled stockings and cat-eye glasses with (hold for dramatic pause)...eyebrows!

Enjoy!

And the Award goes to...

This past Sunday people crowded around their television sets to watch the creme de la creme of cinema awards, and win a years worth of  bragging rights to guess who would walk with Oscar gold, many also stayed glued to the pre ceremonies...of course I am talking about the red carpet watch where the nominees are not the only names to be seen and heard.  This is a moment for Hollywood starlets to wear the creme de la creme of couture, bringing along their friends Dior, Chanel, Prada and Lanvin.  Naturally, year after year it is the ladies who take centre stage but the one who stole the show is Tom Ford; an attendee for his acclaimed directorial debut and also dressing at least half of the hunks in his own designs.

It is a night filled with glamour, with winners and runners up...and to be followed up with days that are buzzing with lists... best dressed, best moments and top tens of every sort.  So, in true Oscar fashion (pun intended) here is my - in no particular order -  top ten list...

Diane Kruger in Chanel Couture...

Sarah Jessica Parker in Chanel Couture...

Luciana Barroso in Salvatore Ferragamo...
